The Pakistani nation has rendered the unprecedented sacrifices of life and property in the war against terrorism; the sacrifices given by the Pakistani nation are unmatched. After the Peshawar School incident, the nation got together to take action against terrorism. Pakistani nation will never forget the supreme sacrifice of the APS martyrs. This incident shook the country and resulted in the formation of a National Action Plan to stem extremism and terrorism from the country. The army’s day-and-night undaunted efforts, hard work and sacrifice have broken the terrorists’ back. The valiant army, security forces have defeated terrorists via the National Action Plan.
To mark the anniversary of the horrifying terrorist attack on Army Public School (APS) Peshawar 16th December is observed every year to pay tribute to innocent children, faculty members and sympathize with their grieved families. A memorial of the APS martyrs constructed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in Peshawar was inaugurated this year on 16 December, 2017.
On 16th December 2014, six gun men wearing explosive belts conducted a dreadful terrorist attack on the Army Public School in the northwestern Pakistani city of Pakistan. The militants, all of whom attacked were foreign nationals, included one Chechen, three Arabs and two Afghans. They entered the school and opened fire on school staff and children, killing almost 150 people including more than 130 young students. A rescue operation was launched by the Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group, (SSG) Special Forces, immediately who killed all the six terrorists and put hard efforts to rescue 960 people.
According to the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the public relations department of the Pakistani military, Major-General Asim Bajwa, ‘’ the terrorists did not intend to take any hostages but instead wanted to kill as many pupils as they could. As the terrorists opened fire, many of the pupils ran toward the two exits on the other side of the auditorium, but many of them were gunned down in the garden.’’ He further added, ‘’we know who they are and who they were in contact with but details cannot be shared due to operation reasons. They were aware of locations and they must have carried out the recon of the area. And it is highly possible that someone from inside might have tipped them off.”
Parents, friends, siblings and relatives of the young martyrs of the Army Public School (APS) Peshawar still look for a settlement as the painful memories of the loved-ones they lost on that fatal day are yet to be faded away. Dec 16, 2014, will be remembered as grievous and atrocious day in the history of the world, when inhumane and brutal terrorists attacked innocent young students.
16th December will be remembered as a black day in the history of Pakistan when barbaric and brutal elements targeted the innocent students and faculty members of a school. This devastating attack swallowed many lives of our nation. This tragedy had led to the historic national unity and evoked the nation to make a firm resolve for a consentaneous plunge into decisive action against terrorists. This brave nation ensures it would never happen again so our future generations would be raised safely to follow their vision and dreams. Pakistanis salute all martyrs and would keep their immortal sacrifice alive forever.
