A few years ago, in Lahore, there was a serial killer named Javed Iqbal. He captured almost 100 boys from Lahore and killed them. When he arrested by the Police then he committed suicide in the prison cell.
However, before this Serial Killer, there may be various child abuse cases happened in the different cities if the country. But due to not having a strong media set up, not having sufficient resources, it is going to be tuff to make an estimate that how many these sort of cases happened in the country in pre-internet times.

An NGO is working in Pakistan for the safety of children known as Sahil. This NGO has given a report about child abuse in Pakistan in previous years that is there were 2,321 cases in 2007, 1838 cases in 2008, 2012 cases in 2009, 2252 cases in 2010 and 2303 cases in 2011.
The NGO gives a publication on the yearly report expressed by the term ‘Cruel Numbers’ it means that it represents the number of cases of child abuse that happened in a whole year in the country. And the publications say that there were 3445 cases in 2017, but the situation of 2018 according to the report were very frightening by showing an increase in child abuse cases.

As per the Sahil report, the year of 2018 and 2019 was very disturbing as compared to 2017. As the report shows, they were 2232 cases in 2018 and 2846 in 2019. The data indicates that there were 56% of girls were victims and 44% were boys.
In Attock, there was a gang who supposed to rape the children and there were some cases of student harassment by a teacher in Mirpurkhas all this has happened in 2018. Here is a very small seen of the bigger picture that is more damaging in the future.

Those children who become the victims of these types of situations they had to live a very problematic life. Because they are supposed to handle their stress for the rest of their lives. Some are very strong that they can handle it, by just letting it go and move, but some are unable to forget it and this will make a negative impact on their mental health which will further affect their lives like in school, their place of work and social connections.

When the case of Zainab Ansari takes place, the accused person has to give his life in return. If we see this emotionally this was a convenient decision at that time. But it was not this effect that it will end child abuse. For handling this terror that has grabbed our communities and societies. We should take safety measurements at the starting level. Security services are required to be upgraded and our system of criminal justice should be redeveloped. Pakistan’s government must give useful and suitable training to police, doctors, NGOs. Many other major people who play their vital role in giving protection to the children in Pakistan. Our government should make it compulsory to give sex education to children. The taboos relevant to it must be removed so this will help our children to live a safe life.
