In an impressive display of dedication and fandom, Bilal Ilyas Jhandir, a 20-year-old from Pakistan, earned the title of the world’s number one Taylor Swift fan by setting a new Guinness World Record. Bilal identified an astonishing 34 Taylor Swift songs just from their lyrics within the span of one minute, surpassing the previous record of 27 held by Dan Simpson from the UK since 2019
The challenge involved recognising songs from a random list of Swift’s 50 best-selling tracks. With no music to guide him, Bilal relied solely on the spoken words to pinpoint each song. His achievement is not only a testament to his love for Taylor Swift, but also to his remarkable memory and attention to detail.
Bilal’s journey to this record-breaking moment was fuelled by what he describes as the “best way on Earth” to express his extraordinary love for the pop icon. According to the Guinness World Record blog, despite being a long-time listener who claimed to know all of Swift’s lyrics by heart, he embarked on a rigorous 13-week preparation period. This intense training involved extensive listening sessions that were so immersive that he would sometimes find himself reciting lyrics in his sleep.
